Although starting an affiliate business is simple, making it successful isn't so easy. If you want to become a successful affiliate marketer, then there are certain things you need to do.

Although this isn't everything you need, these are the most important elements of affiliate marketing. Work on building these first, and you will build a successful affiliate business.

1. A Website

Your website can be something as simple as a lead capture page, where you build a list, or you may choose to do a review site filled with content. Both websites are effective but for different reasons.

A lead capture page, or a list building page, allows you to build a list by offering visitors to your page an incentive for joining your list. The advantages of this type of site are obvious: 1) you build a relationship with others as you continue to sell to them, sending them content, as well as sales emails 2) you recycle your traffic 3) these types of sites are easy to make.

With a content site, you can add value to the products or services you are selling by writing reviews, articles, and other content to help your visitors. This content will allow them to make decisions about buying the products or services you are offering.

One thing to keep in mind with whatever type of site you build: make sure you build a list. 98 percent of those who visit your site won't ever come back. Give them a reason to come back.

Also, don't think you have to follow these two models exactly. You can have a lead capture page with a link to content. You can also add a subscription box to your lists.

2. Incentives

Incentives are where you give bonuses for buying through your affiliate link. These can be something you make or something you buy to give away. What makes them important is that with the right bonuses, you will make more sales.

The key to adding the right bonuses to your package is to choose things that complement the product offering and enhance it. In other words, you want to enhance the offer.

An example of this would be something like this: you are selling a package that teaches marketers how to market on forums. You could add a piece of software that helps find forums, or a piece of software that helps them keep track of forums. You might also give them a list of forums. Whatever you choose, make it add to the offer.

3. Traffic

You can have the best site in the world, but if you don't have traffic going to it, you're wasting your time. One of the first things you need to do once you start a business online is to learn how to drive traffic to your offers whethere they are yours or someone else's. There are many ways to do this, like search engine optimization, article writing, forum marketing, and others.

Start by learning one traffic technique and building on it. Once you have found a technique that works for you, learn another one. You don't have to keep inventing the wheel. Just do what works.
