Attending a job interview can be a nerve-wracking experience. These simple tips will help you perform your best at this important time.

1. Research
Make sure you know as much as you can about the company and the position you are applying for. This may seem obvious, but many people fail at interviews simply by not finding out enough about the job they're applying for. If you have a good knowledge of the requirements of the job, you will be able to anticipate many of the interviewer's questions, and provide cogent answers.

2. First Impressions
They say 'you never get a second chance to make a first impression', and they're right. Interviewers are heavily influenced by how you appear when they first meet you. They will make a rapid appraisal of how well dressed and groomed you are, your body language, the firmness of your handshake and your facial expression. How you dress for the interview can make a big difference to your chances. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that your ability to fill the post is all that matters - the interviewer's perception of you will be formed by what they see, not just what they hear. Make sure you're properly prepared, and your confidence will shine through. Confident body language, a firm handshake and keeping eye contact in a natural way will pay dividends. An interviewer will also tend to remember what happens right at the end of your interview as well, so bear this in mind.

3. Prepare These Answers
While the questions you are asked will obviously vary greatly depending on the job you're applying for. There are 4 questions which get asked in one form or another, in just about every interview scenario; so you should be prepared to answer them:

How good are your interpersonal skills?
Can you plan and manage your potential workload?
Are you a team player?
How do you perform under pressure?

Of course there is a lot more to being successful at a job interview, but bear these 3 tips in mind, and you'll have a good foundation to work from.
