3 Things You Shouldn't Do When it Comes to Credit Reports - By: J.J. Yong

It is already an obvious known fact that our personal credit reports are vital in our lives so long as we have got financial ties and activities. They keep track of all our financial movements and hold a list of our faults and lenders along with how we manage our repayments. To have a clean credit report, there are a number of thing that you should do.

First, never miss payments. If you're on a loan and have already agreed to pay back in installments, always keep track of the due dates and never skip them. There are three late payment factors that would show on your report; frequency of your late payments, severity and how recent it has been. On top of that, it would help if you could pay more than the minimum requirement as well as this would show on your report and help boost your score.

Next, never excessively shop for credit. If you need some, survey the market and pick one and stick with it. By filling up forms here and there, you are giving lenders the opportunity to view your credit report and this would show up as an inquiry. Inquiries on your report would make the score counters assume that you are financially troubled and need loans in abundance; hence it will lower your credit score. Try keeping inquires at its minimum and avoid filling up credit forms unless you are certain that you need it.

The third thing is to not have a credit report at all! This is a huge mistake as it will help you a lot in a long run. The benefit of being an American citizen is that consumers with good credit reports will be rewarded with inexpensive loans as and when they need it. Choosing to not use credit or remaining ignorant to its existence will prevent you from building a solid credit history and score and will subsequently make it very difficult to secure home or auto loans when the time comes.

Credit reports can drastically change your life, so be sure to always keep on your toes and watch how you mange them before they fall apart.
