Your list is a major driving force to your internet success. Over 70% of internet successes have been built on proper list building. However, a lot of internet marketers have not aligned themselves with this fact and therefore lack knowledge of the dangerous effects few list building mistakes could have on their internet business. Some of these mistakes are discussed below:

1. Not giving anything in return for a name and email address most times is the major reason visitors to your page do not opt into your list. Offering a free E-book, CD or software is a good bribe to motivate the visitor into giving his contact details in your subscription box.

Everyone has a special love for free things and will hardly forfeit any opportunity to grab it when made available. Your task is to make sure the free gift has some genuine content and can solve the subscriber’s problem to a reasonable extent.

2. Many a times, internet marketers fail to maintain regular contact with their subscribers. This is another fault you must correct. Always make sure you have some kind of information to share with your list.

It could be updates on a recent offer, a How To article posted on your blog, a recent audio interview with an expert in your niche etc. Any relevant information that has new knowledge to impact your list members is advised.

Maintain a sequence for sending your mails – daily, weekly or monthly, not any time beyond that. This will help you build a strong relationship with your subscribers and gives them a reason to continue buying from you.

3. Failing to fulfill your promises is another list building mistake you should avoid. You wouldn’t want your opt in subscribers to label you an unserious guy who cares less about his followers. If you promised them a free report or a special discount on your product, make sure you don’t disappoint. Even when it is extremely impossible to fulfill your promise, explain the reasons to them and try to make up in some way.

As the experts will always say, “your money is in your list”. Do your best to keep them happy and you’ll smile to the bank all the time.
