2 Musts Before You Start Your Own Internet Business - By: Khoa

If you are thinking about operating your very own online business then you will need to give some serious contemplation to the logistics that will be involved in such a transition. Too many people are seduced by the seemingly get rich quick nature of working at home, only to then discover that the dream quickly degrades into a hellish nightmare.

With that in mind then, the following is an overview of some of the practical details the aspiring online business operator should consider:

1) Having an environment free from distractions

Working from home and operating your own home based business is something of a double-edged sword in that although you have the flexibility of determining and setting your own schedule, you need to factor in other distractions and any crisis that may arise.

If you have young children, then you may find that they make unreasonable demands on your time especially when you are trying to focus on completing an important project. Your spouse may feel a little resentful at not receiving much attention... and of course, how can we forget the million and one different problems and issues that arise during the course of an average day?

Whether it is your children getting gum stuck in their hair, your dog wanting a walk, picking up dry cleaning or repeated phone calls from your landlord/mother in law/flaky sister, rest assured, that you will find that there will be times when your schedule does not function as smoothly as you would like.

With that in mind then, you will need to ensure that you devise a timetable and schedule that will allow you to get other tasks out of the way... thereby freeing up time for your online business venture.

2) Set realistic limits

Within the freelancing world, whereby a person will provide their services remotely to a buyer in exchange for money, deadlines are king. Ultimately, the almighty dollars rules and those who don't perform will not succeed. This may sound like an overly harsh and cynical assessment, but the cold hard truth is there.

Don't overburden yourself with copious amounts of work that you are not confident that you will be able to finish in the time specified. The reason for this is simple: at best, you will be over-stressed, overworked and so the quality of the work will be rushed and substandard. At worst, the client will be so displeased with your lack of progress/quality that they simply rescind the contract.
