Nowadays, getting satellite service in your home is a pretty easy thing to do. This is because, for the most part, you will not have to do anything aside from sign a contract and be home when a professional technician arrives to put together your system. But even though most satellite providers usually provide free equipment and professional installation when you sign up for a satellite service plan, there may come a time or a situation in which, for some reason or another, you will be forced to install your satellite TV system yourself. Or, maybe you just like doing things with your hand and is your choice to install it yourself.

Whatever the reason may be, if you are a first time satellite TV subscriber facing the task of installing your satellite system by yourself, following these 10 easy steps can make the job go smoothly and quickly.

1. The first thing you will always want to do when installing any type of electronic equipment is to read the manual that came with the system. Doing this will give you a basic overall understanding of the equipment you are going to be dealing with.

2. When installing a satellite TV system, the next step after reading the manual will be to figure out the latitude and longitude of your home. You can get this information online or by using a GPS device.

3. Third, visit your satellite TV provider's website to find out where the nearest satellite to your home is located.

4. Choose a spot to install the satellite dish that is far away from where any children play and that is not obstructed by trees or other tall objects. Then, you will need to mount your satellite dish in one of several places: on your roof, on a high wall, or on top of a pole that is fixed in the ground.

5. Run the coaxial cable from your satellite dish to your system's receiver. You are now halfway to enjoying satellite TV in your home.

6. The next thing you will need to do is connect your TV to the receiver.

7. After connecting your TV to the receiver, you will need to turn on your TV and refer to the steps that will be found in your user manual regarding how to determine whether or not your system is picking up a signal.

8. After that, you will need to align the satellite dish. Doing this will require that you figure out the elevation level of your system and then identify the elevation indicator on your satellite dish. You can adjust the height of your satellite dish by unscrewing its elevation nuts and guiding it up and down until it is in the right position.

9. Next, you will want to look at your channel guide and make sure it matches up to the channels that are being displayed on your TV. If you are receiving the correct channels, it means that your signal is coming from the right satellite.

10. The last thing you will need to do is use the LNB (low noise blocker) to focus the picture.
