The Golf Driver – the best or worst piece of golf equipment? - By: callumwill3564

View any professional golf tournament on the TV from any part of the world and you'll witness some tremendous feats of driving. Whilst you'll find, obviously, some exceptions during the period of a 4 day tournament, long and straight is pretty much what you will see on most the par 4 and 5 holes.

Visit any course on the day when the amateur members hold a monthly medal or any other competition however, and the spectacle gets a quite different. A good amount of long and straight drives but, sadly, a good amount of drives which are neither long nor straight. Occasionally you will observe drives that defeat logic along with the law of physics. I saw some guy tee off recently and the ball finished up behind him in a car park!

Bad tee shots are part of the game. Whilst you can easliy choose the best golf equipment in the market, hire the top coaches and practice until we're sore, there is absolutely no escaping the reality that errors in golf will usually occur. Amazing though isn’t it how many errors occur once we have the golf driver at your fingertips. This definitely does allow you to wonder if we might be happier only playing the driver when essential.

For quit some time I've been macho man, one that takes the driver out on just about every long hole. Risks don’t enter into it. I hit the ball quite some distance and shorter clubs from the tee simply won’t do. It’s a ‘man thing’ if you know what i'm saying. Nearly all my colleagues are of the identical mindset and I would like to bet that there are many other golfers around with the exact same views.

We've got to be truthful with ourselves though. Even though the golf driver, when hit sweetly, is definitely the most effective piece of golf equipment inside the bag, it may also be probably the most destructive. There isn't anything better throughout the round than to see that white dot sailing quite some distance down the centre of the fairway following a well struck drive. Sadly however, there isn't anything worse than seeing precisely the same said ball disappearing over an out-of-bounds wall, right into a lake or pond or flying off into some deep and dark wood because of an uncontrolled drive. Even more frustrating is when the bad shots within a round outweigh the good. Which appears to be my game at the present time?

Given this situation, along with the stagnation of my handicap over the past couple of seasons, I've reluctantly made a decision to leave the golf driver inside the bag off the tee and to use it only when essential. I’ve attempted to address the problems by utilising the new golf driver technology but all to no avail. I most certainly will get ribbed by several of my so-called golfing buddies but hey, I've got to give it a try! For any golfers around suffering a comparable fate off the tee while using golf driver please feel free to participate in on the experiment. We can compare notes on progress later!
