Some refer to it as working out your karma. Whatever label you give it, one thing is for sure. Everything that could go wrong, does especially when you're in that phase in your life. The real challenge is whether you keep on going, keep the hunger, or just give up. Sometimes giving up seems such a sweet option, such a welcome alternative, but once you do, and get comfortable, you start having nagging thoughts such as "What would have happened if only I hung on in there just a bit longer?"

Whether they achieve any of them is another matter completely. It is my belief that some people are born with a greater level of ambition than others. Some people develop ambition and aspirations for a better life with time, and when the start on the journey of personal growth and self development. What causes kids who had bright-eyed dreams of being astronauts, or racecar drivers to suddenly quit their dreams and instead, settle for less? The answer is manifold and complex. When I mention environment, I don't mean the physical environment. I'm referring to the socio-economic environments in the various geographic locations around the world. Social environments pertain to your peer groups, co-workers, and intimate partners. Economic environment pertains, in the context of this article, to whether the country you live in is a developed nation, or a developing nation; first or third world.

Let's go into an example scenario. Imagine a young, bright successful young man who is an excellent mathematics and physics student. He has finished high school, applies for a scholarship, but doesn't get through. The young man has been able to keep focused on his vision thus far. But reality hits in the form of peer pressure. Many of the other guys he grew up with have no aspiration to further their schooling, nor improve their standings in life. They are just happy to get by. Our young man in question has no support from his peers nor his coworkers in that regard. He's a decent looking young man, and gets the attention of a pretty young woman who is intent on settling down. The young man falls in love with this young girl, and the begin seeing each other on a steady basis.

The couple gets engaged, and shortly after, the girl is pregnant. or are currently surrounded by, is steeped in mediocrity and ignorance? What would you do? Would you bear the ostracism, the ridicule and rejection, and seek a better environment? Or would you just give in to the societal pressure, just so that you could fit in. What if you can't seem to find the right support group in your country? Do you just give up hope, or do you leave in search of better pastures? My solution to such, particularly if the option of relocation might be impossible at the time, would be to create a virtual and internal environment supportive of your goals and aspirations. That can be done in the following ways.

Watching less television, especially the news, and being selective about the television shows you watch. You can simply rent dvd's of your favorite movies

Listening to less radio.

Joining virtual communities of like-minded individuals across the world via the internet. You need to decide what path you are going to take when it comes to achieving your goals, and living the life of your dreams.
