Lose Weight and Keep it Off. - By: dibill

We all know the best way to lose weight and then keep it off is to stick to a sensible eating plan. However most of us need help to not only create a sensible eating plan to help us lose weight but to stick to it when we finally find a plan that suits us. I have outlined below a few steps to help you achieve your weight loss goal.

Step 1. Make a list of everything you eat and drink each day. Don’t be tempted to miss that cake or sweet off your list as that is a sure fire way of failing in your attempt to lose weight.

Step 2. Cut down on your fat intake. Try halving the amount of butter or margarine you put on your toast. Substitute low fat yoghurt ofr mayonnaise in your sandwich and on your salad. Buy an oil spray for cooking rather than just tipping the oil into the pan. I am sure you can think of many other ways to cut your fat intake.

Step 3. Have your sugar fix (cake, candy etc.) every second day instead of every day. Then go to every third day and so on until you are only eating these things as a special treat every once in a while. Believe me this really works and eventually the sugar craving disappears.

Step 4. Substitute water with a slice of lemon for your fruit juice of a morning.

Step 5. Eat lean meats. Trim the fat off your meat before cooking and remove the skin from chicken before cooking. And eat at least two fish meals each week.

Step 6. Include two meat free dinners in your diet each week. Build these meals around whole grains, beans, lentils and vegetables. There are some really great recipes for these types of meals.

Step 7. Use low fat or skim milk, and low fat cheese. You really can’t tell the difference as regards taste between low fat and normal cheese.

Step 8. Eat at least two servings of fresh fruit each day and five servings of vegetables. Cut down the size of the protein part of your meals and use vegetables to fill up on.

Step 9. Replace that white bread with whole grain, whole meal or rye.

Step 10. Eat your meals at the table, not on front of the television as studies have shown we eat more while watching TV and usually these foods are high in fats and sugars.

Step 11. If you must drink sodas etc drink only the calorie free beverages. Don’t be tempted to substitute sodas with fruit juice as these are full of sugar.

Step 12. Get into the habit of planning your meals and buying the ingredients in advance so you are not tempted to just throw something together as these meals invariably end up being loaded with fat and sugar.

Step 13. When you dine out choose fish or a small steak and have it with an undressed salad.
