A writer needs to keep up with the news, so a subscription to one of the better newspapers, not a scandal-ridden tabloid, but a newspaper that reports the news without political affiliation, in the U.K. "The Independent" would be a great choice.

Writers never like to leave a work when it is going well, or when a deadline is close, even to make themselves a cup of tea or coffee. A small tea or coffee making machine that can sit in the study or right by the computer should alleviate this problem. There are many Christmas gifts that writers would be happy to receive. These are just suggestions to inspire and guide your own thinking. Think about your writer's personality and writing and you can probably think of many more wonderful ideas.
