A Safe Volcano

Soufriere Volcano has not erupted since a minor eruption back in the 18th century, so there is nothing to worry about as far as safety is concerned. It is certainly not considered a dangerous activity for newlyweds on their St Lucia honeymoons – in fact it is considered a must-see. However, you will still be able to see the signs of volcanic activity when you visit. The crater may be dormant, but you will experience the incredible sight of boiling mud and steam emerging from it.

Beautiful Colours

The mixture of sulphur, copper oxide, iron, magnesium and other compounds has created some incredible colours at the surface that are a real sight to behold. As well as the mesmerising colours, you’ll also see a number of vents through which the steaming water rises and are beautiful in their own right.

Some couples like to bathe in the waters here as they are said to have therapeutic and healing properties. People who have skin conditions can often benefit from the waters, and even if you aren’t in need of therapy, it is a most enjoyable experience.

Hold Your Nose

Although you will not be allowed into the crater itself due to safety reasons, you’ll certainly be able to smell the sulphur. The smell is more powerful at night-time than during the day and can be a bit overpowering at times, so be warned.

Drive-Through Volcano

Because the volcano is not a threat and many people live very near to it, you are able to drive right up to it, making it completely unique. You won’t be able to do anything like it anywhere else in the world, and an excursion here certainly makes any St Lucia honeymoons memorable!
