You should always choose your team members based on their ability to play the game. If you don't, you could be setting your team up for losing the game. You could choose your best friend and in some cases your should. Under normal circumstances, you should pick the team players based on their ability. If you choose someone to be on your team because they are you best friend and they can't really play the game well, you are setting yourself up. If the team loses, they will blame you because you chose your best friend instead of choosing the best person to play the game. You can choose your best friend near the end of the choosing phase if you think that he/she isn't going to be picked by the other team. You first priority is to choose the best players first.

After all of the best players are chosen, the choices have to be based on something else. That is when you can choose people just because you like them. You could do that anyway, but as we discussed, that could be disastrous for you. If there is no one left in the line up that you like, you will have to choose according to who you think will do a better job within the team. You don't want to choose people who aren't good at being part of a team either. You should pick people that don't try to take over the whole game. Everyone wants to play the game, it isn't made for just one person to play.

The point of playing the game is to win. Don't forget that you want to have fun while you do it. It might be school, but you still want to have fun while you play. Don't let yourself get too caught up in the winning aspect. Be a good sport no matter who wins the game. Don't pick on the kids that don't do as well as some of the others. Treat everyone with respect.
