Osteoporosis and back pain are linked, as the former affects the joints and the lumbar and thoracic regions. Symptoms include weakness, joint and back pain together with height loss, an unsteady gait, Kyphosis or Dowager’s hump etc. Metabolic bones are affected leading to dysfunction and climaxing with reduction of bone mass and increase in porosity.
The causes of Osteoporosis vary and may cause back pain and include the following:
• Drop in estrogen levels. Estrogen is a hormone working in harmony with some steroid hormones. Estrogen is produced in the ovaries, and stimulates sexual heat (estrus) and helps the development of secondary female characteristics.
• Lack of exercise, general immobility and calcium deficiencies

Osteoporosis may causes increases in phosphate (Phosphoric Acid), and thus over stimulation that affects parathyroid activities, and thereby decrease “bone resorption” and indirectly causing back pain.
Parathyroid glands are located near the thyroids and Osteoporosis so effects estrogen that it slows bone resorption which is the process where the bones resorb or use other mechanics to partially fuse fluids and chemicals, emerging from hormones, such as estrogen.

These fusions even partially acting actually perform actions, but the interruption of that action, causes responses that cause changes in conditions, exemplified by pressure and temperature.

Osteoporosis related actions cause back pain, joint pain, weakness, etc. X-rays and photon absorptiometry tests are sued to identify Osteoporosis. These tests support the viewing of thinning in porous bones, or increase in the spinal curve. Drops in mineral content are also seen by such tests.

A positive diagnosis of Osteoporosis, is immediately followed by medical treatment and nursing interventions. Management of the condition includes supplements, usually Vitamins D & C, Calcium; more specifically Calcium Carbonates-Os-Cal. Estrogen supplements like Estrace or Estradiol are also given. Early interventions will prevent back pain.

Pain including back pain, is treated by NAID-based prescriptions, and may include Dolobid, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Naprosyn and Voltaren.

A good diet is continually indicated while Osteoporosis exists in the body. The doctor will also monitor the musculoskeletal system, since the disorder may cause other problems including back pain. The activities will be monitored and even limited as Osteoporosis can allow fractures and breakage in bones. Complications can be many and though it is quite common, despite much research, surgical interventions do not yet exist in the fight against Osteoporosis.

In the consideration of Osteoporosis, it must not be confused Osteogenic Sarcoma, or Osteosarcoma as it is sometimes known, Gouty arthritis, Osteoarthritis, and other related disease as the symptoms are quite similar.
